Hampshire Creatives' Advice Hub - Why Trust Beats Virality: Marketing Yourself as a Creative Freelancer
Most creative freelancers are stuck making the same three mistakes, and they don't even realise it.
In this brutally honest session, Jeremy Mason (26-year BBC/ITV veteran who pivoted to digital) will show you exactly what's holding you back, why the "go viral" advice is killing your business, and how to fix it using nothing more than your phone and a window.
The 3 mistakes we'll fix:
- Mistake #1: You think you need professional gear to look professional (you don't - here's the £50 kit list that's actually enough)
- Mistake #2: You're chasing virality instead of building trust (virality is a lottery ticket, trust is compound interest)
- Mistake #3: You're waiting to be "ready" (ready never comes - here's how to start TODAY, even if you're terrified)
By the end of this session, you'll have recorded and shared your first video.
Not planned it. Not thought about it. Actually done it.
We'll use the exact formula Jeremy teaches, and you'll press record during the session (yes, it's uncomfortable - that's the point). This is the webinar that gives you permission to stop waiting for perfect and just bloody start. Secure your place now.

With nearly two decades in UK Broadcast TV working as a Cameraman (and latterly as a DP and Producer of Concert Films), for me it’s all about creating the best possible work whatever the constraints you may be facing. It’s all about keeping an open mind, being flexible, friendly and always open to learning. Always striving for the best, and having fun doing it – that’s what keeps me going. That and tea. I am a partner and director of Motion Picture Stills and Video – a boutique production company which is all about creating amazing video and stills content. I have produced and DP’d a number of Concert Film and Music Documentaries (some of which you have seen here), and have a number of other projects in development. And as if that wasn’t enough, I also own lighting and camera kit, so can facilitate shoots of whatever size you may need.
